Assign Tools to Groups and Shapes
After you create and add tools in the Catalog Manager, you can assign a default tool that is inherited and used by all of the shapes in your project. You can also override the default tool and assign different tools to specific groups or shapes. Refer to Tool Inheritance.
The icon adjacent to the tool is different if it is assigned to shapes or if it is in your tool catalog. If tools are not assigned and not in your tool catalog, they are not saved when you close the project. Refer to How Tools Show in the Project Pane.
To Override the Default Tool and Assign Different Tools for Specific Groups or Shapes
- On the canvas or in the Project pane, select the shapes. To select more than one, press and hold the Ctrl key while you click them. You can select one or more groups in the Project pane. The properties for Process show in the Properties pane.
- Assign or remove a tool from the selected groups or shapes.
- To assign a tool that overrides the inherited tool, click the Tool arrow and select the tool that you want to use.
- To remove the assigned tool and use the inherited tool, click the Tool arrow and select -Inherited-.
